msa1000 connection to switch in c7000

I have an msa1000 with a msa fabric switch installed. I connected it to the brocade 4gb san switch in the c7000. I get some link lights on the back of the brocade switch, but not the msa. I tried a diefferent cable and still no go. I also set the port on the brocade from auto-neg to both 1 and 2gb. On the msa interface it shows the port type as unknown. Any ideas, or something I may be missing?

looks like the switch in the msa can't be connected to the brocade switch.
