How to get my HP-UX 11.31 and Rhel 5/6 servers to update their respective ilo's
Background: I have several BL870c i2 (running HP-UX 11.31) and BL460c G7 running on c7000 chassis.
On my ESX servers, things like the hostname are populated to the ilo from the OS. So, if we happen to change the hostname, that change is automatically pushed to the ilo.
How do I implement this on the RHEL/Hp-UX servers? I have done countless hours of research on this and even opened cases with HP.
If someone could explain how this works it would be great cause manually managing all my ilo names etc. is a pain.
Thanks in advance.

Re: How to get my HP-UX 11.31 and Rhel 5/6 servers to update their respective ilo's
Updating ilo is a manual process. Whether it be firmware update or configuration, you need to log in to ilo and make changes including hostname by hand.
There is a management interface on the blade enclosure that can be configured with an IP address. It then can be accessed via a web browser.
To give an ilo interface an IP address you must first connect to it, assign an IP address. If there is a DNS server with a hostname assigned to that IP address, you are pretty much done. If not you need to make a DNS configuration request to whatever team controls that functioanlity in your shop.
I guess I'd ask what you mean by update. Firmware is a manual operation. Initial configuration is also a manual operation.

Re: How to get my HP-UX 11.31 and Rhel 5/6 servers to update their respective ilo's
I don't have the answer but I have seen what you are talking about. I believe the older versions or RHEL or at least a component in the bundled image that was used to install RHEL was missing something that updated that info (at least where I work). My company moved up an image or two and it started to work. The first deployments of ESX5 were the same way.
So it has to be something in the OS that talks to iLO - the two I can think of are the lights-out online configuration utility and the Systems Management Home page. Do you have either one loaded/updated for those OS's?
