Integrated Lights-Out (iLOs) and Onboard Administrator (OA)s are not registering

Frank had a customer DNS issue:

*****************

At a customer site and we have discovered that the iLOs and the OAs on the servers and enclosures are not registering with the customer’s DNS servers.  Normally I have seen at other customer sites that the iLOs and the OAs register automatically.  Where should I start looking to discover why the iLOs and the OAs are not registering?

Thank you,

Does the customer management network have DHCP? If yes, the DHCP packet should contain the DNS server address(es).

If OA EBIPA is being used to provide IP addresses to the iLO – check that the DNS information is correct for each EBIPA entry.

If the OA is configured for a static IP address – ensure that the OA network setting for each OA includes DNS information.

If they are using active directory DNS, it may be set for secure updates only, which only works for Windows hosts. OA and iLO can only do unsecured DNS updates. Many customers make a separate management zone and sync from there.
