Onboard Administrator reporting Fibre Channel interconnect module Failed

Gary was looking for some advice:

**********************

The OA is reporting interconnect module Failed. Is this by itself reliable indication of actual failure?

c7000 with 2 x OA 3.30. New setup and initial problem reported as unable to get Brocade 8/24c to pick up an IP address via EBIPA. Brocade 8/24c in interconnect bay 4 working fine

TROUBLESHOOTING

1. Power cycle interconnect module

2. Reseat interconnect module

Note: CU unwilling to swap interconnect modules

3. Reseat both OA modules and OA tray

Still unable to access the internal serial port via OA cli connect interconnect 3. Attempting to do so resulted in no error, it simply would not go past the prompt to press ENTER to display the console. ENTER was pressed repeatedly. No issues accessing interconnect bay 4 from OA cli.

Nov 10 12:58:17  OA: Internal health status of interconnect in bay 3 changed to Failed

Nov 10 12:58:17  OA: Internal health status of interconnect in bay 3 changed to Unknown

Nov 10 12:59:36  OA: siteops logged out of the Onboard Administrator

Nov 11 08:33:34  OA: Internal health status of interconnect in bay 3 changed to Degraded

Nov 11 08:33:34  OA: Internal health status of interconnect in bay 3 changed to Unknown

Nov 11 12:52:27  OA: Internal health status of interconnect in bay 3 changed to Failed

Nov 11 12:52:27  OA: Internal health status of interconnect in bay 3 changed to Unknown

Nov 11 12:52:29  OA: Internal health status of interconnect in bay 3 changed to Failed

RESULT: Sent replacement Brocade 8/24c and it worked.

Is there anything I missed in troubleshooting?

From Arnout:

I have seen the same issue on an identical switch.

New setup, switch stays amber and does not take EBIPA address.  CLI also not working.

Replacing the switch with spare solved the issue.

I find it odd that we have exact the same problem…

Also from Arnout:

See http://bizsupport.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01505751/c01505751.pdf for 8Gb switches

Set the switch Ethernet  IP address

NOTE:

The switch supports DHCP beginning with  v5.2.1b firmware. For switch rev C or greater (see case label),

DHCP is enabled by default, simplifying multiple switch installations.

To enable or disable this feature, login with these default  credentials and issue the ipaddrset command :

username: admin

password: password

To set the Ethernet IP address:

1. Verify that the enclosure is powered on.

2. Verify that the switch is installed.

3. Choose one of the following methods to set the Ethernet IP address:

• Using Enclosure Bay IP Addressing (EBIPA)

• Using External DHCP

• Setting the IP address manually

There is no default IP address on these switches.
