SIM / VCEM fresh install from ICE CD's
We had a question from the field. Lee asked:
**************************************************************************************************************
Team,
Customer is trying to get VCEM to install. They got through the initial installation without errors the first time, but there was no start menu link or SIM integrated console link to VCEM. They were advised to re-install from the ICE DVD, but now they are getting the below error and there are still no links to the VCEM console. The customer has SQL locally on the CMS and the DB team said they wiped away any trace of the previously created tables. We had to manually remove VCEM from the “program files” directory in order to get the option to install VCEM from the ICE installer.
Has anyone run into this before? If so, any suggestions? I initially suggested they re-image the server and then re-install the software, but they are reluctant to do this since the SQL installation lives on the local disk.
**********************************************************************************************************************
Arnout had the solution:
*******************************************************************************************************************
Here is how I solved it:
- Locate the file “hpvcem.log” ( I don’t recall the exact directory this file is located in…)
- Check if you see the following:
GUIDSERVER - Installing GUIDSERVER...
05-02-2010 10:01:01 [Vcem] GUIDSERVER - Command line parameters: /s /f1"C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager\guidserver\GUIDServer_Install.iss" /f2"C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager\guidserver\GuidServer.log" /input="C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager\guidserver\Install.xml" /output="C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager\guidserver\GuidServerResult.xml"
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] EXECUTE - C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager\guidserver\setupgs.exe - executed with success.
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] GUIDSERVER - installation status: FAILED - 7007 - PRODUCT ALREADY INSTALLED.
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] GUIDSERVER - Unknown error code...
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] GUIDSERVER - Installation completed.

05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] INSTALLFILES - Files installation completed.
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] An error occurred during the installation of Vcem Core and Backend files...
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] ________________________________________________________________
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] CREATE_REPORT - output file - C:\vcemoutput.xml
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] CREATE_REPORT - error code (localization) - 11032
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] CREATE_REPORT - status - ERROR
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] CREATE_REPORT - description - Failed to install Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager MAC/WWN database tables
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] CREATE_REPORT - error code - 2
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] ________________________________________________________________
05-02-2010 10:01:14 [Vcem] ROLLBACK - an error occurred during the installation and a rollback will be done!
05-02-2010 10:01:16 [Vcem] UNREGISTERTOOLS - Unregistering Vcem from HP SIM menu and events from HP SIM events...
- If that’s the case:
- Open Explorer and make sure you enabled viewing hidden and system files.
- Go to the folder “C:\Program Files\Installshield Installation Information” . This is a hidden directory!!
- Go to the folder “{54E27822-D3D2-4C80-BBA4-1600EC943548}”. This is the setup directory of the GUID server.
- In this folder, you will find a setup.exe.
- Run setup.exe and do a complete uninstall of the GUID server.
- Rerun the VCEM installation.
And Lee responded that this worked!! Happy days.

Re: SIM / VCEM fresh install from ICE CD's
Hi
We are experiencing the same error but it doesn't help with the workaround presented. Any other suggestions? We have Windows 2008 HP SIM server and a SQL 2008 Cluster.
The installtion stops with "GUIDSERVER - installation status: FAILED - 7007 - PRODUCT ALREADY INSTALLED." and the "Failed to install Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager MAC/WWN database tables" eventhough we had manually uninstalled it earlier. This is getting quite urgent and any help is much appreciated.

Re: SIM / VCEM fresh install from ICE CD's
Similar issue but even more annoyingly I uninstalled the GUID which has worked for me in the past. Tried a reinstall and still had the same error. Now I can't even uninstall the GUID server via the setup utility as there must have been a (no surprise) Install&^%^%%$Shield error.
Is there a way to manually remove the GUID server?
