Temp monitor/alert of 8/12 SAN switch

Yoi had a customer question regarding temperature monitoring:

********************

Does 8/12 SAN switch for c-class (AJ820A) and 1Gb ethernet Pass-thru (406740-B21) alert about over temperature event to OA system log ?

If yes, how is it shown ?

("interconnect #5 status changed from OK to degraded" ... or something ??) How many degree of the temperature does trigger the alert ?

As I see the "show interconnect info all", it is shown that "Temperature Sensor:

Present" for 8/12c SAN Switch (AJ820A).

(We don't have 1Gb Pass-thru... but it is said that "Power, temperature and status Can be monitored by the OA" .

So it must be monitoring the temperature of itself, I think.

But "show enclosure temp" shows no temperature value like below.

(two 8/12c are in intetconnect bay #5/6.)

Locale                 Bay # Temp Status      Temp    Caution   Critical

---------------------- ----- -----------    --------  -------   --------

Enclosure                    N/A            25C/ 77F    ---       ---

Onboard Administrator    1   OK             39C/102F    75C       80C

Blade Bay                1   N/A            25C/ 77F    39C       42C

Blade Bay                8   N/A            24C/ 75F    39C       42C

Interconnect Module      2   OK               ----      ---       ---

From Monty:

HP BladeSystem c-Class Onboard Administrator thermal logic for interconnects is different than for server blades.

The BladeSystem hardware design specification for interconnects allows each interconnect manufacturer to select the method for cooling from a list.  The alternatives include:

  • Interconnect indicates temp threshold is exceeded
  • OA reads temp sensor on interconnect and computes whether a temp threshold is exceeded

The OA discovers which method to use for a specific interconnect by reading the interconnect FRU.

  • If the temperature sensor is reported absent – the interconnect asserts a threshold indicator to the OA when a threshold is exceeded
  • If the temperature sensor is reported present – the OA will read that temp sensor and compare to the threshold values also reported in the interconnect FRU to compute whether a threshold has been exceeded for that interconnect

The OA only reports when the Caution or Critical temp threshold is exceeded for an interconnect – the OA does not have nor report a temp sensor for any interconnect.  The OA does report on interconnect bay information whether the Temperature Sensor is absent or present.
