Customer question for HPN 6125XLG Blade Switch

Cristi had a customer requirement:

Dear colleagues, I have a requirement by a customer for “Bandwidth sharing capabilities per port”.  Based on the 802.1Qaz DCBx support, can I say that the HPN 6125XLG switch is compliant?

Yes you can:  not only DCBX, but also PFC and ETS, as stated in the HPN 6125XLG guide, must be configured:

===========================================

To avoid FCoE packet loss in the Ethernet, you must perform the following configurations on the Ethernet

interface bound to the VFC interface:

  • Configure data center bridging exchange (DCBX), priority-based flow control (PFC) in auto mode,

and enhanced transmission selection (ETS) on the Ethernet interfaces that connect the switch to

servers.

  • Configure DCBX and PFC in auto mode on the Ethernet interfaces that connect the switch to disk

devices.

  • Forcibly enable PFC on the Ethernet interfaces connected to other switches.

ETS provides committed bandwidth. To avoid packet loss because of congestion, the device performs the

following actions:

  • Uses ETS parameters to negotiate with the server adapter.
  • Controls the server adapter's transmission speed of the specific type of traffic.
  • Guarantees that the transmission speed is within the committed bandwidth of the interface.
