Customer wants to replace Ethernet Pass-Thru modules with Cisco 3020s while in production

Stan had a customer question regarding upgrades:

*************************

A customer is asking about swapping out 4 x Ethernet pass-through

modules with 4 x Cisco 3020 switches in a production c7000 enclosure.

They would like to know if they should be able to do this without

causing an outage.  It seems to me that if they have teaming

configured that they should be able to do this by swapping one module

at a time, configuring and patching each of the 3020's into the

network along the way.

I would agree, if teaming in configured (correctly) and the new switches are configured correctly, they should be able to do this.  Also, may depend on the VLAN requirements too.  If the new switch is inserted and not configured for the appropriate VLAN, it may be possible that a NIC fails over to the new switch, then cannot get to the correct VLAN, so care and planning will be needed.

Any input or suggestions for Stan? Have you done this sort of an upgrade and had success or failure? Let us know please.
