HP GbE2c Layer 2/3 Ethernet Blade Switch uplink question

Meg had a Blade Switch question:

*******************

Customer asked me a question the other day that I’ve never really thought about.  On the HP GbE2c Blade Switch, you have 5 uplink ports 20-24.  20 is “separate” from the other four and they wondered why?  Is it just the way the circuit board was designed?  Was it done on purpose so you won’t trunk port 20 with the other 4?

Steve had the answer:

If you take a look at the faceplate you will notice that 21-24 are both copper and fiber.  The four ganged copper ports on the right are multiplexed with the four fiber ports.  You can use one or the other but not both.

Port 20 is copper only and cannot be multiplexed.  You can trunk 20 with any other port. There are no restrictions other than it is the one copper only uplink.

Thanks Steve, Other questions??
