InfiniBand (IB) port mappings

Ed had an InfiniBand port mapping question:

Quick question… we are looking at putting in an IB HCA in Mezz 2 and an IB switch in Bay 5 (and 6 – double wide switch).

Will both ports on the HCA be active and connected to the IB switch?
Or… will port 2 not have anywhere to go?

Reply from Monty:

Infiniband adapters have ports that are 4-lanes wide which require a double-wide infiniband interconnect in c-Class.

A dual-port Infiniband adapter would need two double-wide Infinband interconnects – where the second interconnect would connect to the second port on the HCA.

For a dual-port Infiniband adapter – not having a second IB interconnect just means you would only have one IB port.

The HP Connect-X IB mezz adapters are available in single or dual port and support either two ports of Ethernet or two ports of Infiniband.
