Question about the Brocade Fibre Channel licensing

Avi had a Brocade FC licensing question:

*************************************************

Bit confuse with brocade 4 GB license.

In the user guide mention •” Brocade 4/12 SAN Switch for HP c-Class BladeSystem, base, integrating 12

active ports (8 internal and 4 external) and two preinstalled short wavelength SFPs “.

Also found in ISS technology update:

Q :Can more than 8 servers be licensed with each Brocade 4/12 SAN switch (Figure 4-1) at the expense of external ports (for example, 10 server ports and 2 external ports)?

A: In addressing the first question, the proposed scenario is permitted. The only requirement is to maintain at least one licensed external port. However, if the configuration contains two HP c-Class Brocade 4/12 SAN Switches side-by-side in a dual path configuration, the servers on the top of the enclosure should use Host Bus Adapter (HBA) port 1 and servers on the bottom should use port 2. This will split the load between the two paths.

So what’s true, can I use one license for uplink and 11 license for the servers ?

Thanks in advance.

You can configure one license for uplink and 11 license for the servers using “licensePort” command.

This is 8Gb SAN Switch user guide, but it also applies for 4Gb SAN Switch.

Any other comments? Have you succesfully used the Brocade "LicensePort" command?
