Adding RAM to HP ProLiant BL460c G1
I have just been given the job of adding DIMMs to 8 blades which currently have 4Gb installed when bought. I am assuming they are fitted with 2x2Gb and we want to upgrade these to 16Gb. Is there any way to tell exactly what is installed in what slot?
My understanding is the blades have 8 slots and the 120W units can take 48Gb max. I only want to go to 16Gb. It makes sense, to me at least, to buy 2 x 8Gb DIMMs . Can I add 2 x 8Gb DIMMs along with the assumed 2x2Gb bringing us to 20Gb. It doesn't make sense to rip out the 2x2Gb DIMMs if they can stay where they are.
Would appreciate anyone's input as I don't want to make the wrong choices here.

Re: Adding RAM to HP ProLiant BL460c G1
You have it right, the G1 has 8 slots for up to 64GB RAM.
Leave the 2x2GB DIMMs in, they come as standard with the server.
Normally you can't tell which slot the DIMMs are installed without opening it up but if it hasn't been modified I think slots would be slot 1 and 3 for the 2x2GB DIMMs.

Re: Adding RAM to HP ProLiant BL460c G1
Hi,
I am using below configuration on HP Prolaint BL460C G1 blade server.
2 x Intel┬о Xeon┬о Processor X5365 - 120 Watts Processor
DIMM1: 2048MB
DIMM2: 2048MB
DIMM3: 2048MB
DIMM4: 2044MB
DIMM5: 2048MB
DIMM6: 2048MB
DIMM7: 2048MB
DIMM8: 2048MB
We would like to increase the maximum RAM for the servers. But as per the blade spec sheet, the 120Watts processors support three 16GB (2x8GB) or supports 48GB of memory.
Could you please let me know what are the possiblities to increase the RAM. And also please let me know the memory configuration for 120Watts processor.
Best, Surendra
