Any way to pull serial # from Hard Disk Drives in a blade?
Steve had a customer equipment inventory question:
**********************************************************************************************************************
Is there any way to pull the serial number from internal HDD's (bl465c) without yanking them? My customer is doing some inventory today.
***********************************************************************************************************************
Hoa provided some great info and tools.
*************************************************************************************************************
Run ACU from Windows or Linux (if install), look under “physical” rather “logical”, high light each disk drive, on right hand pan click “More Info” the serial should be here. Or save a copy of ADU report, open it up you’d get everything one shot or feed into ADU Reader.
- Extract from attached ADU sample report
SCSI Port 1, Drive ID 1
Vendor Id: COMPAQ
Product Id: BF0728A4BA
Product Rev: HPB7
Vendor Specific: K40D2NXK 00007
Serial Number: K40D2NXK
- ADU reader link: http://stain.cca.cpqcorp.net/ -Feed your “Report.zip” to internal HP reader to analyze Disk Array info.
Get the ACU here:
If Windows we’re talking about then the tool preload with HP PSP. If not, cold boot the server with SmartStart CD in under Server Maintenance you can find ADU tool to capture ADU report offline, No OS or Linux or VMware where user doesn’t want the load the ADU.
Stand alone Windows ADU reader: Itanium based: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=MTX-85ca2781cd694d259c51bf994f&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
****************************************************************************************************************
Does this work for you? Ever used the ACU before, let us know how it works.

Re: Any way to pull serial # from Hard Disk Drives in a blade?
Assuming the blade is running linux and hpacucli is installed do this as root:
hpacucli ctrl all diag file=/tmp/adureport.zip ris=on xml=on zip=on
