Booting the Smart Update Firmware DVD from a USB Drive Attached to the OA
Stephen had a firmware update question:
**************************
Good morning all,
I tried to boot the SUF DVD on some c7000 BL460c G6 servers from a USB drive in the OA USB port yesterday but could not. I used the HP USB Key Utility to create the key as well as just copping the ISO to the thumb drive. When I went to enable the blades to boot from the OA USB in the OA GUI I didn't see the image listed in the column that shows what is on the memory stick. Also clicking on the "launch" link brought up a system console but didn't boot the blade.
Are there directions for doing this somewhere or can someone tell me what I was doing wrong?

Dave has the answer:

You do not need to make the thumb drive bootable for the OA USB port.
Format the drive as VFAT / FAT32. Then copy the ISO(s) you need to the drive.
The OA recognizes three file extensions, ISO - attach as CD BIN - OA update file CFG - OA config or script file

Any other suggestions?
