FlexLOM replacement/add-on question
Duane had a FlexibleLOM compatibility question:
***************
My day for weird questions I guess….
Have a customer who has a BL660 full height blade with only (1) FlexLOM (530FLB) installed from the factory.
CU needs iSCSI capability and I just realized that 530FLB and 554FLB cannot be mixed in FlexLOM slots. So – question is: Does anyone know if I can order (2) 554FLB adapters below and install them in the field, replacing the existing 530FLB?
HP FlexFabric 10Gb 2-port 554FLB Adapter 647586-B21
Is there a physical difference between these two SKU’s? Are they interchangeable?
HP FlexFabric 10Gb 2-port 554FLB Adapter 647586-B21
HP FlexFabric 10Gb 2-port 554FLB FIO Adapter 684212-B21

Input from Dan:

Yes you can replace the 530FLB adapter with a second 554FLB FIO adapter. There is no difference other than one being the factory installed version.
So just to close the loop on this for anyone else who might be curious.
I looked up the details for mixing FlexLOMs and here is what it says:
- FlexibleLOM mixing
- Emulex-based FlexFabric 10Gb 2-port 554FLB Adapter with the Intel-based 10Gb 2-port 560FLB Adapter
- Emulex-based FlexFabric 10Gb 2-port 554FLB Adapter with the private sku Intel-based 1Gb 2-port 361FLB Adapter
- Broadcom-based Flex-10 10Gb 2-port 530FLM Adapter with the Intel-based 10Gb 2-port 560FLB Adapter
- Broadcom-based Flex-10 10Gb 2-port 530FLM Adapter with the private sku Intel-based 1Gb 2-port 361FLB Adapter
- Intel-based 10Gb 2-port 560FLB Adapter with the private sku Intel-based 1Gb 2-port 361FLB Adapter
I took this data, along with the assumption that we would always support 2 of the same model Flexible LOM and came up with this chart.

Pretty clearly shows that among the 4 Flexible LOM modules, the only NON supported combination is 530 and 554 which is what Duane was aiming for.
