Installing ESXi 5.0 (U1 and U2) on BL460c G8 - Illegal opcode
I've been trying to install ESXi 5.0 (U1 and U2) by mounting the ISO on the Remote Console. The installs says it was completed but when the blade restarts it seems like the hard drive doesn't have anything installed and boots into the "illegal opcode" (red screen of death)
1. The ISO I used were from this website - http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/software/vmware/esxi-image.html
2. I've also updated the blade to the latest Proliant service pack
(HP_Service_Pack_for_Proliant_2013.02.0-0_725490-001_spp_2013.02.0-SPP2013020B.2013_0628.2)
3. I've replaced the hard drive that came with the system and I still run into the same issue
4. I've installed ESXi through "Intelligence Provision" and still run into "illegal opcode"
5. The weird thing is I've tried this install for another blade inside the enclosure and it worked perfectly fine.

Re: Installing ESXi 5.0 (U1 and U2) on BL460c G8 - Illegal opcode
First update BIOS version 2013.03.01 and update Intelligent Provisioning version: 1.40
Intelligent Provisioning- http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=3709945&prodSeriesId=5177949&prodNameId=5204414&swEnvOID=4024&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-12c365d219654b94ab8b2e8c1c
After update bios and Intelligent Provisioning do download de ISO available on site FTP as below the informations.
The installation should be done by F10 Intelligent Provisioning
Matrix support
BL460c Gen8 (3), (4)
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/vmware/supportmatrix/hpvmware.html
(3) Supported with the HP ESXi Offline Bundle for VMware ESXi 5.x version 1.1.2 and forward
(4) Successful installation of the VMware operating system requires either the HP custom ESXi image or an OS image can be created with VMware's ImageBuilder application that has, at minimum, appropriate device drivers to support the boot controller and at least one network device in the server. A list of drivers included in the HP Custom Image is available here.

Hello,
I also have same problem with 460cG8. I successfully installed on another same model blade, but second blade stuck in first reboot after installation. I am booting from 3PAR SAN, multipathing.

Re: Installing ESXi 5.0 (U1 and U2) on BL460c G8 - Illegal opcode
Hello,
I was installing ESXi 5.0 U2 HP image on 3PAR BFS LUN, I forgot to disable building array controller. I disabled it and rebooted servers without luck. Then I reinstalled ESXi and it solved this issue.

Re: Installing ESXi 5.0 (U1 and U2) on BL460c G8 - Illegal opcode
I had seen a few other customers reporting an odd glitch a while back where for some reason None of the volumes were getting flagged as Boot volumes.
Please post back and let us know if you got this resolved.
