OA fails to report CPU temperature. ProLiant WS460c Gen9

Hello HPE Community,

This post is in regards to a ProLiant WS460c Gen9 server blade, in a c7000 chassis.

This particular blade fails to report it's CPU temperature to OA, both in the web and cli. In the sensor list it reads:
CPU Zone - 02-CPU 1 N/A
CPU Zone - 03-CPU 2 N/A

The machine appears to be running normally despite this. Steps I have taken to resolve the issue have been unsuccessful, such as: re-seating the blade, re-seating the CPU's, upgrading the iLo firmware, re-applying the server profile in OneView, etc.

System ROM: I36 01/22/2018
iLO4 2.70 May 07 2019
Power Management Controller 1.0.9

Any insights would be appreciated!

Hi There,

Is the AMS (Agentless amngement services) installed in the server?

From the given FW version, looks like the BIOS is old, I would suggest you to install the latest FW and DRY version fro the latest SPP.

Cheers.

Re: OA fails to report CPU temperature. ProLiant WS460c Gen9

Hello, thanks for the reply!

Firstly, no, AMS is not installed nor a product we use.

I have updated the blade bios fw to version: I36 v2.74 07/21/2019. And now, 1 of the 2 sensors is being detected:

CPU Zone - 02-CPU 1 - N/A
CPU Zone - 03-CPU 2 - 40°C

Interestingly, in the iLO, it reports in the System Information > Temperatures > Sensor Data:

02-CPU 1 CPU 7 10 Not installed N/A N/A
03-CPU 2 CPU 7 6 OK 40C Caution: 70C; Critical: N/A

I have to wonder why it lists it as "not installed".

Any further advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

One defective sensor may affect more sensors in the chain.

I would compare the presense of sensors with known good server first.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the replies.

I feel that "One defective sensor may affect more sensors in the chain" is the most reasonable answer, and I was told this by a 3rd party warranty technician. Quoting them: One of the sensors for WS460c is bad which cascades to the remaining CPU temp sensors for that server displaying on the OA, both in the GUI and on the physical Insight display.

This was after I sent them the result of the Show All script from OA > Enclosure Info > Enclosure Settings > Enclosure Bay IP Addressing > Configuration Scripts > SHOW ALL

Motherboard was replaced and the issue has been resolved. Thanks!
