Blade configuration help with Virtual Connect Fibre Channel

Nancy had some Fibre Channel configuration questions and Dave responded.

Team,

I have a customer who needs assistance with a Blade configuration with VC-FC interconnect bay cards connected to a Brocade. I need the following information:

Q1: NVIP on VC card is not enabled – how is this done?

A1: NPIV is needs to be enabled on the upstream SAN switches. Check out this Fibre Channel Cookbook. It has the procedures for most common SAN switches back in the Appendices.

http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01702940/c01702940.pdf

Q2: Fabric uplink ports not logged in situation – How is this fixed.

A2: It may not be logged in because NPIV is not enabled on the SAN switches.

Or multiple uplinks from bay x needs to connect to the same SAN switch.

Do not cross the fibre uplinks to different SAN switches, unless it is another SAN uplink, i.e. Disk_SAN_A and Tape_SAN_A.  Disk_SAN_A ports 1 & 2 in bay 1 needs to go to the same SAN switch A. Tape_SAN_A in bay 1 port 3 & 4 needs to go to the same SAN switch A.

Any help with this would greatly be appreciated. Thanks for your help in advance.
