Can use FC module, can't add fabric on server profile, etc...

Hi Folks,

I have 2 hp C7000 enclosures that contain each 2 fc modules "HP 8/24c SAN switch pwr pk+ bladesystem c-Class"

enclosure 1 is working fine with this module

but enclosure 2 seems to not be able to use the fc moduls, because a lot of FC options are missing

. it's the first time I try to use it so I'm certainly missing something.

When I go to the "servers profiles" on enclosure 2, I don't have an "FC HBA Connections" section, like we can see on the "capture1" (coming from  enclosure 1)

and even on the start page of the VC web interface, a lot of FC options are missing (see capture 2 coming from enclosure 1, and capture 3 coming from enclosure 2)

For the moment I didn't plug any FC in the module of the enclosure 2, not sure if this is the reason...

the status of fc modules on enclosure 2 seems good (all is green), and I already try to restart them.

Thx a lot in advance

Re: Can use FC module, can't add fabric on server profile, etc...

HP 8/24c SAN switch sounds like the brocade switch and not like a VC FC module.

This b-series switch cannot be managed with virtual connect.

However, FC connections may also depend on the FC (ethernet) modules you are using, because if the modules provide FCoE support, you can configure FC without dedicated FC modules and mezzanines.

Hope this helps!

Re: Can use FC module, can't add fabric on server profile, etc...

Hi Torsten,

ok so maybe I mix an fc module and an fc switch, sorry about that^^

Here my goal is not to use FCOE because it's not a compatible feature with what we need to implement.

The thing is that on both enclosures, I have exactly the same modules:

 - 2X HP VC Flex-10 Enet Module

 - 2X HP 8/24c San Switch Pwr pk+ Bladesystem c-Class

I didn't implement the enclosure 1 so I don't know what have been done on this one.

It's true that the FC switch is not managed via the VC, it have a dedicated url for that (it launchs a java software), and I have access to it but it seems to ask for an old java version and it's a pain....

regarding the missing "FC HBA connection" section in the "servers profiles", is it related to that? or something else? (licences ?)

Thx

Re: Can use FC module, can't add fabric on server profile, etc...

HP 8/24c San Switch Pwr pk+ Bladesystem c-Class

Please check if you can find a product number on it so we can be sure what it is.

What is the OA showing in the firmware screen?

... java ... yes, I'm already sure it is a brocade.

Hope this helps!

Re: Can use FC module, can't add fabric on server profile, etc...

the part number is AJ822A and spare part number is 489866-001 on the four modules (the 2 on enclosure 1 and the 2 on enclosure 2)

I finally solved the java issue so I can access the brocade switch interface, but my main pb resides^^

Thx

Re: Can use FC module, can't add fabric on server profile, etc...

It is the brocade module and cannot be managed by virtual connect.

Hope this helps!

Re: Can use FC module, can't add fabric on server profile, etc...

yes I already got that and I already have access to the brocade interface. But why I can't add a FC HBA in my server profile? maybe because the switch is not well configured?

Thx

Re: Can use FC module, can't add fabric on server profile, etc...

Without a VC FC module there is nothing to configure, except a virtual WWN maybe.

Hope this helps!

Re: Can use FC module, can't add fabric on server profile, etc...

If you don't want to use FCoE and you don't have any VC FC modules, I don't know what you want to configure related to FC in VC?

If you differences in enclosure 1 and 2 it may depend on the firmware versions ...

Hope this helps!
