Enclosure & Virtual Connect Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) size

Trouble shooting question from Raymond:

Hi experts

I am new to c7000 enclosure.

I have a customer complaint about the network packet drop on their application (Unix blade server).   Now after some checking, they divert the problem to us as my team is the enclosure owner.  Now the application team is asking did we set the MTU size on enclosure or VC level.  To be honest, I never see such option in blade and VC.  Perhaps it exists but I don’t know as I am not expert in blade & VC.

I believe those MTU settings are relying on the host, not the enclosure.  The enclosure & VC support the MTU up to 9216 bytes.  Thus, it all rely on local server settings.  Please comment.

Blade:  460C G7

Interconnect:  HP Flex10 & HBA

Correct, VC will auto detect Jumbo frames (4K/9K MTU size packets) and enable Jumbo support as needed.

There is no way to configure MTU size support in VC.

You just need to make sure the Blade Server OS has the proper settings and upstream switch also has proper MTU Size.
