Flex-10/FlexFabric and stacking link question

Nick had a module stacking link question:

*****************

Hi all,

I know this has been discussed in the past, but I want to check the situation hasn’t changed.

We have a customer with 2 FlexFabric modules and 4 Flex-10 modules in their chassis, and they are talking about air-gapping them into layers (bay 1 and 2 linked, 3 and 4 linked, 5 and 6 linked, but no stacking links vertically)

I seem to recall that the last thread on this said that as long as we connect stacking links when configuring Virtual Connect, we can then remove the stacking links in normal operation, but;

  • It will report as degraded in VCM
  • HP do not support this configuration

Is this still the case?

Mark replied:

There is nothing we do in Virtual Connect to prevent a customer from configuration or operation without vertical stacking links in place. The module configuration happens on the Onboard Management (OA)/mgmt network and not the Stacking Link.

However, you are correct in the summary.

  • It will report as degraded in VCM
  • HP do not support this configuration

Yes, this is still the case as of VC 3.17

Re: Flex-10/FlexFabric and stacking link question

Hello chukk281,

I have the same question as you concerning a setup without vertical stacking, on your side were you able to make it work properly ?

Please let me know, thanks
