ISS DAC cables no shutting down with loss of uplink

Pedro had a customer question:

Hi guys,

I have a customer with 7m ISS SFP+ DAC cables connecting Flex-10 to a Cisco Catalyst 6500.

Almost everything works perfectly (even with the “non cisco transceiver” advisory message) but when the ports are disabled (by command line) in the Catalyst, it is not detected by Virtual Connect. The uplinks stays active and packets are sent nowhere.

Is there any known workaround for this?

Hi Pedro,

Do you have SmartLink enabled?

That is how Virtual Connect looks at the uplinks and will then shutdown the downlinks to the servers. It uses the Dynamic Control Channel (DCC) function to do this. From about VC 2.30 onward.
