Migrating from 1/10Gb-F VC-Eth Modules to Flex-10
Terry was looking to help a customer migrate Virtual Connect modules:
*************************************
One of my customers sent me the following questions:
Are you aware of any HP documents that would address converting a c7000 Chassis to Flex-10 Modules from (HP 1/10Gb-F VC-Enet Module) modules?
My biggest question would be … will we lose all the VC configuration? Or can the configuration be converted over to Flex 10??
I would guess the Server Profiles would need to be rebuilt, but how about all the other configuration, Shared Uplinks, Networks, MAC address settings?
I have not seen a defined process documented anywhere but it is my understanding the customer could perform the following steps to migrate from 1/10Gb-F VC-Eth modules to Flex-10.
1. Backup the current domain configuration
2. Shutdown the servers
3. Delete the existing VC domain
4. Replace the VC modules
5. Restore the VC domain configuration
6. Change the network uplinks to meet new ports on Flex-10 modules
7. Power up the blades
I know we don't have enough details from the customer, but anybody have a general guess/idea how much down time would be required?
I would appreciate any comments/suggestions.

Chris has some info:
****************************
Refer to page 49 “Upgrading to an HP Virtual Connect Flex-10 Module”
*************************************
That should help. Any other words of wisdom?

Re: Migrating from 1/10Gb-F VC-Eth Modules to Flex-10
Hey there,
I'm preparing a migration to Flex-10 for an enclosure that has the following modules so far:
Bay1: VC Ethernet 1/10 Gb
Bay2: VC Ethernet 1/10 Gb
Bay3: VC Fiber Channel 4 Gb
Bay4: VC Fiber Channel 4 Gb
I will replace modules in bays 1 and 2. I've read the page 49 of the VC document and was surprised to find so few instructions. It sounds like an easy migration, I was expecting a lot more steps.
Has anybody actually tried that before and what was the outcome?
Thanks,
Didier
