Port numbering when adding a mezz card and VC FlexFabric

Question from Michael:

***************

Guys does anyone have a snap of what it look like in VCManager  when you had a mezz card to a blade? What I am looking for is how and where the ports come up does the mezz card start at 9 or does it come up in the middle say at 5  ???

If you have a Flex10 mezz card in a G6 or G7 half height blade, all connected to Virtual Connect modules, the port numbering will be, for a 100% ethernet connectivity:

eth0: LOM port 1-a

eth1: LOM port 2-a

eth2: Mezz port 1-a

eth3: Mezz port 2-a

eth4: LOM port 1-b

eth5: LOM port 2-b

eth6: Mezz port 1-b

eth7: Mezz port 2-b

….

Of course, if you have more than 1 Mezz and some iSCSI or FCoE connections configured, it will change the order.

iSCSI and FCoE will always be using physical function b. For instance, if you configure 2 FCoE connections on your server profile, you will have:

eth0: LOM port 1-a

eth1: LOM port 2-a

eth2: Mezz port 1-a

eth3: Mezz port 2-a

eth4: LOM port 1-c

eth5: LOM port 2-c

eth6: Mezz port 1-b

eth7: Mezz port 2-b

FCoE1: LOM port 1-b

FCoE2: LOM port 2-b

Test it on a development machine before implementation, so you can verify.

Any other input or suggestions? I also thought that the numbering may vary from Windows to Linux to VMware. So test it out first.
