Simple question: can a BL420Gen8 have two Mezz 530M Flex-10 Cards?

Hi,

We bought a few BL420Gen8 servers and installed a 530M Flex-10 mezz card on it (slot 2). In bay 1,2,5 and 6 we installed some Flex-10 VC modules, nothing wrong here.

Then in found out that the speed of NIC1 and 2 on the Blade (onboard 361FLB NIC) only has 1Gbps connections instead of 10Gbps.

Is there a way to get the onboard NICs faster? Probably not and if so: is there an option to install an additional 530M nic in Mezz slot 1 without altering the lex-10 modules installed in the c7000 enclosure?

I don't think you're going to be able to do what you want.  The interconnect bays on the back of the chassis are hard wired to certain ports on the blades.  The onboard ports go to bay 1 and 2, the mezz 1 ports go to bay 3 and 4, and the mezz2 ports are interconnect bays 5, 6, 7, and 8.

With the interconnect bay configuration you have(flex-10 in bay 1,2, 5 and 6), iIf you put anything on the mezz 1 connector,  it won't have anything in the interconnect bay to talk to.

The embedded LOMs are actually modular on Gen8 systems. For Blades they are called BLOMs (DL/ML are called ALOMs). The BL420 can be ordered with a 1GB BLOM, or a 10GB BLOM, just depends on what SKU is selected. The BLOMs can be changed. Here is the listing from the BL420 Gen8 quickSpec with part numbers. You probably want to get the HP Flex-10 10Gb 2-port 530FLB Adapter to match the Mezz card you're using
