Split network traffic for 1 ESXi Host over 2 separated Flex 10 modules

Hi everyone,

We are planning to separate our management vlans from the client vlans over two separated Flex10 modules in 1 C7000 enclosure.

My question now is :

1) Does a HP C7000 supports more than 2 Flex 10 Modules ? (We allready have 2 working in a domain, active/standby)

2) Is it possible to spit network traffic from one ESXi Host over 2 different Flex 10 modules ?

for example : MGMT Vlan 200 over Flex 10 Module 1 and Client Traffic VLAN 10 over Flex 10 Module 2 ?

Thanks in advance for all advice

Ben

Hi Benno

Yes C7000 can support more than 2x VC modules, but you will need to add Mezz card to each server in the enclosure so It can communicate with interconnect module in bay 3&4.

However I dont see the Idea behind making separate moduels for management and production vlans, normally management network does not require a huge amount of bandwidth, and adding 2x vc modules plus mezz cards will be costly.

Thanks for your reply.

So maybe its more easy and cheaper to add a additional GBIC on each Flex10 Card and separate it like this.

There was just an assumption in my company that with 2 additional flex 10 cards it will be more secure, but I don't think so.

I think with additonal GBIC's I have already a physical separation from the other vlan's even if they exists on the same flex 10 card.
