Stacking Virtual Connect Flex-10 & Flex-10/10D Modules
Mike had a VC module stacking question:
****************
Customer has an existing enclosure with VC Flex-10 modules. They want to add second enclosure with the new Flex-10/10D modules and have it join the existing VC Domain. Will this work? Any issues?

Input from Robert:

A snippet from page 56 of the VC 3.70 User Guide:
Multiple enclosure guidelines
Observe the following guidelines when connecting multiple enclosures:
- • Each enclosure must have at least one supported VC-Enet, Flex-10, or FlexFabric module installed.
- • All VC-Enet, Flex-10, or FlexFabric modules must be interconnected (redundantly stacked).
- • All enclosures must have the same FC and FlexFabric module configuration. For example, if bays 1 and
2 of the Primary Enclosure contain FlexFabric modules, then bays 1 and 2 of Remote Enclosures 1, 2,
and 3 must also contain FlexFabric modules.
- • All enclosures must have the same HP VC Flex-10/10D module configuration. For example, if bays 1
and 2 of the Primary Enclosure contain HP VC Flex-10/10D modules, then bays 1 and 2 of Remote
Enclosures 1, 2, and 3 must also contain HP VC Flex-10/10D modules.

I was commenting this type of configuration with my colleagues and we still have doubts.
According to the User guide, there is no distinction between Flex-10 and Flex-10/10D, because there is no separate reference to any of them. It is my understanding that we could indeed stack one Flex-10 with a Flex10/10D.
What do you think?

Robert’s citation below from the VC 3.70 User Guide is absolutely correct.
Flex-10 and Flex-10/10D are not equivalent for purposes of stacking or domain configuration.
