Tunnel VLANs and Mapped VLAN question

Nelson needed some clarification on Mapped VLANs vs. Tunnel VLANs and when they are best used.

Could you please help to explain what is the different between Tunnel VLAN Tags and Map VLAN Tags, if Virtual connect integrate with VMware Virtual environment, have any information shown which VLAN tag mode should be better, thank you

Greg provided some guidance and where to find more info:

The start of the VC Ethernet Cookbook explains the essential function differences between Mapped and Tunneled modes.

  1. If you need to build a 802.1q server interface from multiple VC VNets then you need Mapped.
  2. If all the VLAN trunks are provided from the Core switches via discrete 802.1q trunks and you do not need the above behaviour then you can use Tunnel mode.

Any other suggestions for Nelson? Do you use both modes?
