Virtual Connect Enperprise Manager (VCEM) and WorldWide Names in SAN environments (WWNs)

Ed had a question regarding VCEM:

****************************

Hi All,

Customer would like to know if there is a way to determine what WWNs VCEM will give out in advance so that they can plan for their SAN Zoning and LUN presentation ahead of time.

Is there a way to look into the VCEM database\list of WWNs and be able to determine this?

Is there a spreadsheet of WWNs that might be floating around that would provide this?

Or are these WWNs only assigned once Profiles are created and\or assigned?

Thanks!

Lots of feedback for Ed:

Chris responded:

Here is a spreadsheet with all the ranges, maybe this will help.

Carl also commented:

WWNs will be profile specific, so each profile will have unique numbers. A profile must be created to know what exact WWNs are going to be used by a server profile.

Any other suggestions or comments for Ed?

Re: Virtual Connect Enperprise Manager (VCEM) and WorldWide Names in SAN environments (WWNs)

From Dave:

From the 6.2 SIG, page 143.  Hope this helps.

"To use the pre-populated Catalog Storage, the volumes are pre-presented. You need to ensure the

server WWNs are not used by VCEM already. It is recommended to use lsmutil –reserveWWN

to get the WWNs for presentation. Check HP Insight Virtualization Manager 6.2 Software with Logical

Server Management: User Guide for details."
