Windows Server 2012 NIC Team configuration

Hello,

I would like to ask you what is the right Windows Server 2012 NIC Team configuration on HP BladeSystem when running Hyper-V cluster on it.

Should be anything special also configured on Virtual Connect?

Thank you!

Best wishes,

Marko

Re: Windows Server 2012 NIC Team configuration

Teaming is done on the hyper-v Host. There are no *special* bahoivers on VC, only tagging or not on the LOMs in the profiles.

1. Use two shared uplink sets as VC domain configuration (best pratice)

2. In your serverprofile set lom1a and lom2a on the samen vlan, both in there own Shared Uplink Set.

3. In hyper-v, use HP Network Configuration Utility to make a team of both nics

Note: when you planned to use vlan tagging (multi-ple vlans on the server downlink ports) you have to put tunnelmode on in the Network Configuration Utility, under advanced settings.

Best teaming mode: Transmit Load Balancing

Link Aggregation like LACP/Trunking isnt possible at the server downlink ports. Maximum TLB.

Re: Windows Server 2012 NIC Team configuration

Hi,

thank you for your answer. I asked this question because we don't want to use HP Network Configuration Utility, because Windows Server 2012 has a NIC teaming built-in. Which mode should we use when using Windows Server 2012 NIC Teaming and not HP NCU?

Thank you!

Best wishes,

Marko
