vNet Failover Mode (NOT Auto) in Virtual Connect

Karene had a VC failover question:

*************

I’m drawing a blank…

When you setup a vNet with 2 ports and you selected Failover (instead of Auto).

Questions:

  • If Primary fails and you have more than 2 ports, what determines which Secondary port becomes Primary/Active port (lowest ID or more bandwidth)?
  • If the Primary port had failed and then it had become good again: Will VC failover back to original Primary port once it is back online?

Input from Mark:

  • If Primary fails and you have more than 2 ports, what determines which Secondary port becomes Primary/Active port (lowest ID or more bandwidth)?

Bandwidth, then if a tie, lowest bridge id

  • If the Primary port had failed and then it had become good again: Will VC failover back to original Primary port once it is back online?

Yes in “failover” mode Primary is Active as long as it is online. So a fail-back occurs.
