Celebrating International Women’s Day the HPE way!

1-8.jpg

HPE is celebrating International Women’s Day 2020 on March 5 and the theme this year is #EachforEqual. For the event’s organizers, HPE’s Global Women’s Network, this celebration is part of their strategic plan to advocate for positive change, raising awareness about the challenges women face. The Women’s Employee Resource Groups mission directly aligns to the HPE’s Inclusion and Diversity priorities: to make HPE the #1 technology company for women to achieve success, build a career, and make an impact in the world by fostering an active and supportive community of women and men, to have an open exchange of ideas and information, provide opportunities and materials to cultivate practical skills to accelerate the career advancement of women at HPE and raise awareness of the challenges women face to advocate positive change.

Here’s what some of the members of the GWN say about why celebrating International Women’s Day is so important:

Melanie Merton, HPE’s Global Women’s Network, Co-chair | HPE Experience Studio, Chief of Staff and UX ProducerMelanie Merton, HPE’s Global Women’s Network, Co-chair | HPE Experience Studio, Chief of Staff and UX Producer“I think we've all been on the giving end of a divergent opinion at one time or another. It can be hard and might leave you feeling unheard, dismissed, or underappreciated. But diversity of thought is what powers innovation and growth. I celebrate International Women's Day in recognition of the richness that gender diversity brings to our culture and to our business. It's an opportunity to highlight all the amazing contributions women make to our company, and it serves as a reminder to ourselves, and to each other, that we are heard, we are appreciated, and what we do really does matter. Sometimes one day of meaningful and sincere affirmation can carry you through 364 days of mild frustration.”

Chris Doherty, HPE’s Global Women’s Network Co-chair | Global IT, Senior ManagerChris Doherty, HPE’s Global Women’s Network Co-chair | Global IT, Senior Manager“I watched this video a couple of years ago and I think it clearly explains exactly why International Women’s Day is so important and why ALL diversity matters.

I firmly believe that every person should be able to bring their entire self to work. We are all unique and human and we all want to be accepted and given the chance to be successful. International Women’s Day is our chance to celebrate gender diversity and remind people why everyone should have a seat at the table. Diversity makes us all better.”

Chris Doherty, HPE’s Global Women’s Network Co-chair | Global IT, Senior Manager.

Anita Jagassar, Aruba WW Channel Operations Project ManagerAnita Jagassar, Aruba WW Channel Operations Project Manager“It’s important to celebrate International Women’s Day because, in 2020, we’re still talking about gender pay gaps, women are not equally represented in C-level positions or politics, and we have countries where females still don’t have the right to basic education. This day is a reminder that we still have massive strides to make to be where we need to be.”

Anita Jagassar, Aruba WW Channel Operations Project Manager.

I think it is important to celebrate this special day because it is a way to honor and show gratitude to all those women before us who, through their energy, care, and personal examples, have helped us grow and become who we are today.”
