Working for a global company has many advantages. You get the opportunity to work with people from throughout the globe and learn about their culture. One of the most meaningful parts of working for Hewlett Packard Enterprise is being a part of a culture where “giving” and “making a difference” in our communities is celebrated and recognized.
This Friday, September 20th, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) holds our second annual Global Day of Service (GDoS) with the participation of 57 countries volunteering for multiple projects globally.
The impact of my co-worker's abilities to make a positive difference in the world and their local communities makes me proud to work for a company that focuses on and celebrates positive actions.
Projects and volunteers’ activities from diverse backgrounds are accomplished during this day.
From feeding the hungry through FoodBanks; cleaning up gardens, beaches and nature preserves; mentoring programs; science fairs; visiting military veterans at Veteran Centers and hospitals as part of the Home of the Brave Campaign.
Helping out at animal shelters as well as assembling science activity kits for underserved students; holding celebrations for seniors, the person with a disability and veterans; creating buttons and pins for women suffering from cancer; upgrading courtyards at local historical sites; supporting charities like Alzheimer Scotland and encouraging visitors at a local shopping center to upload the Purple Alert UK app; supporting a Charity Bazaar and donations for Autism child care; raising money for childhood cancer; participating in charity run for childhood cancer research; making bracelets and selling them for a donation to charity; helping libraries collect and organize books; holding computer classes; helping out at local shelters; used book collections; Habitat for Humanity; creating care kits for the homeless and more.
For employees who are not able to participate in group volunteering events, we launched a number of online virtual volunteer projects, allowing greater flexibility for all employees. HPE is committed to education, so we were pleased to be able to support STEM training and careers guidance initiatives for youth using the virtual volunteer system at a global level.
We value people at HPE and the knowledge and passion our employees show is inspiring. As part of our employee-led approach we enabled volunteers to select and participate in the individual projects that they care about.
This meant our employees were empowered to go out and find causes they care about, and to leverage their skill sets to support causes that require them. Indeed, GDoS is a professional development opportunity for members of our team looking to hone their leadership, networking, project management and communication skills.
At HPE we are committed to advancing the way people live and work. Personally, I’m excited to be part of an organisation that leads the way in shaping a better today and amazing tomorrow. Around the world, the Global Day of Service is something we can all be proud of and I look forward to building on this fantastic momentum next year.
Together, we can change the world.
