SQL Syntax for repopulating empty Additional Field?

Hi,

SQL 2008-R2, HP TRIM 7.3.4 5739 , MS OFFICE 2010, MS Net 4.5. Win 7

Urgent:

We modified a record type by adding some additional text fields and lookup sets so there is a lot of drop down menus that user can choose values from... One of these text fields is text field / lookup set with 1 item only, and that is displayed there as READ ONLY ...e.g. Instruction sentence ... There is no other way of displaying text in the midle of the form saying:"Click here for more info/instructions etc.."

The field is shown normally in the documents (from that record type) made from now on , but there is a need for this field to be previewed (to exist)  in the old records ...e.g. before the record type change...

All other newly added fields are naturally empty, and that is OK, but this one must have the value.

The question is, can we repopolate the table in SQL Database, how complicated is going to be, ( just one sentence, same one for all 1500 old records) to add that value ?

E.g. SQL command? Or any other way?

Thanks

SQL=no no

Why not temporarily make the field not read only, run a search for all those where there's no valid, tag/update, and then make the field read only again?
