TRIM 6.24 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit

I know... unsupported by HP etc etc blah blah.

:smileyhappy:

So, has anyone got it running then?

I can't see why it won't work... I'm getting some kind of communication failed error.

I'm building a VM and trying to just install a TRIM workgroup server..

Should be able to get it running.

Just make sure you install the WindowsRuntimes.msi first, and run the TRIMContext.msi as admin etc...

Grundy, I installed the WindowsRuntimes.msi first, and I was logged in as a domain administrator, so just ran the TRIMContext.msi as that.

Wierd thing is, it will deploy the first time I do this, but then when I try to deploy again, I get a Failed: Windows user authentication failure.

And in the TRIM Workgroup error log, I see the following line:

Error :   User: Our_Server -  A problem was encountered while starting TRIM Workgroup Server. The Server Our_Server is unregistered.  Use TRIM Enterprise Studio to add the server.

Ok, probably clean up the TES then and remove all WG's and Event servers.

Re-add them pointing to the local machine.

Re: TRIM 6.24 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit

Hi Neil

Sounds strange got any screens? a few things jump out as possible causes..

has your account got log in as a service enabled?

are you running with /a permissions.

Is the UAC turned off.

is the workgroup server registered within the enterprise manager.

Is your license up to date.

Sometimes the service says its not started in Trim enterprise manager but it actually has. I find it better to restart the service in services.msc then go to the enterprise manager and depoly.

Ive had 6.24 installed on SBS 2008 R2 enterprise seemed to be fine.

Jason,

No the trim service account that runs the TRIM WG server doesn't have logon as a service enabled.  However, the service runs fine, and I am able to deploy once successfully.

/a permissions?  I would have though the domain administrator was administrator enough to do this.

UAC is set to Never Notify.

Yes, the Workgroup server is registered there.  I have already deployed once.

And yes, license is our current production license key.

Re: TRIM 6.24 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit

Would these still apply?  (out of the TRIM v7 install.pdf)

Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008
Follow these steps if you are installing HP TRIM on the above operating systems and are not
using Group Policy:
1 Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Accessories.
2 Right-click Command Prompt and then click Run as administrator.
3 Type msiexec.exe /i “<file path>\HPTRIM.msi” and press Enter
4 Continue the installation from Installation dialog boxes

Re: TRIM 6.24 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit

So this is 32bit code on a 64bit OS.  And the config file will be in the program files directory - but by default you will have installed in program files(x86) - wonder if using a non-default install location would fix it?

OK, so how do I change the installation dir to Program Files as opposed to the default of Program Files (x86)?

Re: TRIM 6.24 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit

Some additional information.

From the Workgroup server log:

01:17:45       0       Startup phase - starting threads
01:17:47       0       Startup phase - all threads started
02:50:48       0       Deployment: Received new config file from <unknown> at SV15MV-WAS1.
02:50:48       0       - - - Reloading the server - - -
02:50:49       0       LoadDatabaseArray
02:50:51       0       Error :   User: SV15MV-WAS1 -  Failed to communicate with peer TRIM Workgroup Server at trimapp:1137. [RCF:16] : Client connection attempt timed out., [OS:0] :  ***** Description follows *****  ***** Details follow ***** c:\62\trim\rcf\src\rcf\TcpClientTransport.cpp(182): void __thiscall RCF::TcpClientTransport::implConnect(class RCF::I_ClientTransportCallback &,unsigned int): : Thread-id=2180 : Timestamp(ms)=11275094: THROW : class RCF::Exception : [16: Client connect operation timed out (server not started?).][1: Operating system][0: The operation completed successfully.][What: ][Context: ]: ret=-2, err=0, timeoutMs=2000, mIp=trimapp, mPort=1137,

Note that it is deploying a config file the very first time you build this vm.

However, if you then try to deploy again, even if you make no changes, you get that Windows user authentication failure, and this in the Workgroup server log:

Error :   User: SV15MV-WAS1 -  A problem was encountered while starting TRIM Workgroup Server. The Server SV15MV-WAS1 is unregistered.  Use TRIM Enterprise Studio to add the server.

Does that help someone sort it for me? :smileyvery-happy:
