Updating Trim license requires Trim Services restart?

I put in a new registration key on our customer's Trim server and then saved the configuarion in Trim Enterprise Studio. I couldn't restart the Trim Windows Services since it's a production server and thought I'd just leave that until the next time the IT team needed to restart the server during normal maintenance. I figured the updated license wouldn't require a Trim restart anyway. However when we tried to add more users than our prior license had we got the message saying we couldn't add more users. Therefore I plan on restarted both Trim Windows Services. Why is this necessary just for a license change or is this needed so that Trim will read the updated cfg file where I assume the updated registration is stored?  Any way to get Trim to read this on the fly without causing an outage of any kind?

Unfortunately, you'll need to restart the workgroup service for the new license to take affect.  In TRIM v7, it's just a matter of saving and then "deploying" the new change, which, I don't believe, stops the workgroup service, and thus acts like it's "on the fly".  I'm assuming you're on v6?

Hi TRIMGuru,

I just noticed your signature says "Certified HP Accredited Integration Specialist for TRIM"

I didn't know that HP has started certifying anyone for TRIM.

Would you mind sharing with me the contact at HP so I can get my people certifications updated from TOWER Software to HP.

Thanks in advance

Hi Chris,

Via the HP Partner portal, you would go to Train & Certify, then you'll see in the new certifications section - HP AIS-TRIM v7 (here's the link if you have a login:  http://h20507.www2.hp.com/Saba/loginAsUser.jsp?deepLinkName=CertificationDetail&deepLinkParams=certificationId=crtfy000000000021867 )

Yes I'm 6.24 on the server.  The deploy option at least from the help says it's to deploy the config to all workgroup servers. Well we have one. So I never use that. I think I tried it long ago when I knew nothing and I think it causes loss of connectivity to Trim.

Yeah, you're gonna have to restart the workgroup service for it to take affect:

"When you modify information using HP TRIM Enterprise Studio, for example, additions to your licence or changing the demonstration expiry date, you have to restart the HP TRIM services for the changes to take effect."

Hi TRIMGuru,

Thanks for the link.  We are sharing the information with others in Australia (including HP resources) that were also unaware of this online certification.
