How to install CentOS on HP Proliant Server G7

Hello everybody!

I have just acquired a Server Proliant G7 in which I need to install LINUX Centos (or RedHat). I have the following questions.

1. WHat is the latest version of Centos/Linux to install in the Server. Where is the link to downloads.

2. How I install the LINUX. ? My Server doesn't have any OS.  and the SmartStart CD only provides Windows....

Thanks in advance!

Re: How to install CentOS on HP Proliant Server G7

1.) Download locations: http://www.centos.org -> Downloads

To find the version requirement, you should see the HP Technical Exception Matrix for RedHat (since Centos is a clone of RedHat):

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/supportmatrix/rhel/exceptions/rhel-exceptions.html

2.) The newest version of CentOS is probably installable to any Proliant G7 server as-is, since RedHat works with HP to include the drivers for new hardware to RHEL/CentOS releases as soon as practical. Generally, when your hardware is newer than the latest RHEL/CentOS release, you may need a driver disk for your storage controller: the instructions for using driver disks are included in the standard RHEL/CentOS installation instructions.

Usually the next RHEL/CentOS release after the release of a new Proliant hardware model will include the updated driver versions, and the requirement for a driver disk will be removed.

So, if you want to install the latest version of CentOS, just insert the installation media and boot the system from it.
