2924-SFP Lost Password

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Trying to recover a 2924-SFP with a lost password. Tried the console with Ctrl + B and Ctrl + C to no avail. Documentation for the switch simply states for lost password contact 3Com.

Re: 2924-SFP Lost Password

Hi Claude, I had the same problem and just resolve it.

Try this:

From a console connection

Enter the following key sequence (CTRL/SHIFT - (minus)) ONCE at the appropriate time

Baseline 2924

power cycle the switch

When "Testing the System SDRAM........PASS" is seen

CTRL/Shift - (minus)

When "Autoboot in 2 seconds- press Return or Esc" is seen

Press Enter Immediately

At The Startup Menu

Select Password Recovery

Select Back

Re: 2924-SFP Lost Password

Hi,

I have 3com 2924 - SFP PLUS on the desk - with forgotten password.

I have downloaded PUTTY, set the VT100+ mode with appropriate com port settings.

When I connect to the switch and power it on, I can see booting of the switch.

I even connect external keyboard to the laptop I am working on to get the switch reset, but still can't do that.

CTRL + B

CTRL + C

CTRL + SHIFT + "-"

Left control nor right controls button don't make the magic.

I am desperate :(

Could anybody make any video of sucessfull reset on youtube please?  Or how to proceed with this?

Please help

Thank you

Regards

Jakub

Re: 2924-SFP Lost Password

I have the same issue on the same model, pressed all possible combinations but the boot sequence just continues until the login.

No possibility to interrupt it. :(

Re: 2924-SFP Lost Password

Re: 2924-SFP Lost Password

I managed to get this working on my Baseline 2924-SFP Plus switch using @LPENA's commands. See my setup details below in case you guys have different settings or using different gear...

USB -> RJ45 RS232 pins:

  • RJ-45 DTE Pinouts RTS(1), DTR(2), TXD (3), GND(4), GND(5), RXD (6), DSR(7), CTS(8)

System versions:

  • Boot: 1.0.0.14
  • Software: 01.00.05
  • Hardware: 01.01.0a

Serial configuration which was used in PuTTY:

  • Speed: 38400
  • Data Bits: 8
  • Stop Bits: 1
  • Parity: None
  • Flow Control: None
  • Backspace: CTRL+H
  • Function Keys: "VT100+"

Shown below is the serial output:

Now, Press "CTRL" and "-" (minus) button ONCE, and immediately press "ENTER" ONCE. It may take more than one attempt to enter the boot menu - so prepare to do this a few times.

Autoboot in 2 seconds - press RETURN or Esc. to abort and enter prom.
