3com 4400 configuration restore on new switch

Hi,

I have a 4400 series 3com that has a failed fan. I have had a new 4400 sent to me under warranty. I'm trying to restore the configuration file that I have backed up from the current switch onto the new switch. I get:

Restore failed: Hardware Configuration Changed

I have substitutted the MAC address of the new swtich in place of the old MAC address in the configuration file, but that doesn't seem to work. Can anyone help?

Try to update the software version of both switchs to 6.13, and try again.

Or, you can restore it manually, from scratch. the config file backup can be view through text file,

Okay, it looks like the top of the config file that appears to be commented out with # marks, is still be used and compared to the switch. So, what I think you need to do is backup the config from the new switch you intend to use (just to get the header information) then copy and paste that over the config file you wish to restore. Make sure you go in thru DOS and rename the file so it doesn't have a .TXT extention. This worked for me.
