4500 stack / yellow SFP LED light

Hi,

I'm creating a simple stack with three 4500 switches. (no Vlan, only to connect PC's).

First switch will be connected from the  port #49 to second switch's #50 port. Then frome the second switch's #49 port, i'll plug the cable to third switch's #49 port. But I'm not connecting them yet !

I'll plug each other with 1000Base-T SFP trasceivers.

First, i checked the bootrom and version on each. It's all the same.

I enabled fabric port on each port of every switch which will be used.

SW1 fabric-port gigabitethernet 1/0/49 enable

SW2 fabric-port gigabitethernet 1/0/49 enable

SW2 fabric-port gigabitethernet 1/0/50 enable

SW3 fabric-port gigabitethernet 1/0/49 enable

After i'm changing unit-id for each switch for auto-numbering.

SW1 change unit-id 1 to 1

SW2 change unit-id 1 to 2

SW3 change unit-id 1 to 3

Then, I add the network configuration to the first switch

SW1 system-view

SW1 interface vlan1

SW1 ip address 192.168.0.250

SW1 quit

SW1 ip route-static 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0

SW1 save

I save the config in Flash and reboot them all.

Finally, I plug them all together as detailed further before.

They got the right unit number.

But after 2 minuts, the 1000Base-T SFP ports LEDs are lighting yellow, not green !

So, I plugged 2 computers (1 on 1st switch, 1 on the 3rd switch) and try to contact themselves: OK. I can ping both ways the computers. My network seems OK but as regarding the 4500 configuration guide, yellow light indicates "port failed POST".

What did I wrong ?

The configuration guide notice also to configure port 49 and 50 (in my case) as stack-port (as below)

stack-port gigabitethernet 1/0/49 enable

But this command line doesn't work at all !

What's wrong in my configuration ?

Any help would be very appreciated.

Regards. Tak.

Re: 4500 stack / yellow SFP LED light

Your configuration is fine, don't worry. The fabric ports (SFP) leds are really yellow, after the synchronization finishes. The remaining ports (the first port in the first unit and the last port in the last unit) can be used just to form an aggregation group, in order to uplink the stack to a distribution or core layer.

Issue these commands to check the status of the stack:

display xrn

display ftm topo

display ftm info

If the outputs shows the correct units information, your stack is working as expected.
