I can do nothing after that. Hyperteminal is configured according to GettingStarted manual (19200-8-1-N, vt100). I don't want to reset switch to default.
Do you have any ideas why switch doesn't response?

Re: 5500G-EI doesn't answer commands via hyperterminal
this could be a material problem, but let's check a few things :
- is your serial port on your pc fully functionnal ? did you test your pc
with another switch ?
- if you can try, take the latest putty
(http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html)
and use its serial mode to check this
If you try your computer with another switch and get an answer, this
could mean you 5500G is broken... but no worries, it has a next
business day advance hardware replacement included :)

Re: 5500G-EI doesn't answer commands via hyperterminal
I didn't try my com-port with another switch, don't have such an opportunity. But i tried it with ups - it works.
Switch is used to be OK, because three months ago another guy configured this switch, everything was ok. After that switch worked by himself, nobody touched it.
I have an idea that something wrong with console cable, because 3com cable is lost and we made new one according to pin-out from manual. Can the problem be with this cable?
Hardware replacement is no good in my situation :)
In my organization it is called "smart switch",we don't have anything better... :(

Re: 5500G-EI doesn't answer commands via hyperterminal
I have thousands of them (delivered with every switch) but I don't think this is an easy thing to deliver them to you :) you can still order them from 3Com, SKU # 4042967 for 15 $

Re: 5500G-EI doesn't answer commands via hyperterminal
Well, maybe you can tell me how can I restore default settings - I'll try to configure ip-address using DHCP.
I didn't find any button on front and back panels.
Is there any kind of jumper inside the switch?

Re: 5500G-EI doesn't answer commands via hyperterminal
No, this can be totally possible, as it's different wires that transmit Tx and Rx :)
No, there is no jumper or anything for factory reset. You will need a cable for sure. Where are you situated ?
You have to know that a cisco cable would probably work on your switch.

Re: 5500G-EI doesn't answer commands via hyperterminal
We have cisco cable, its pin-out is absolutely different. Is it OK to use this cable? I consider it can 'kill' the port, doesn't it?
I am situated in Russia, Altai Region, Barnaul. I think it's too far away :)

Re: 5500G-EI doesn't answer commands via hyperterminal
no, you won't kill your switch with a bad cable :) except if you plug it to a
power outlet :)
Just try the cisco cable, maybe the pinout you got was mistaken. I'm not
sure if cisco cable works but give a try !
