DHCP over VPLS?

DHCP over VPLS?

Hello,

shouldn´t DHCP packets also be forwarded over a VPLS connection? (In my case on 5500-HI switches)
- With static IPs, I could easily ping each device behind the VPLS sites.

- With an DHCP server on one site, I do not see any DHCP traffic coming back at the other site. (Of couse that DHCP-Server runs perfectly on my local site...)

Limitation, bug, missing configuration option?

Re: DHCP over VPLS?

Hi Michael

Some vpls dont allow broadcasts, or deny them. check with your provider. If they are blocked you need a dhcp relay.

Re: DHCP over VPLS?

Well, I am the "provider" in this case. I have a really simple setup:

DHCP server on site A == HP 5500-HI 1 == MPLS/VPLS == HP 5500-HI 2 == site B == client

As I already mentioned. If I give me a static IP on client of site B and another client on site A within the same subnet I can happily ping each other. But DHCP traffic will not pass the VPLS tunnel.

So you think, it´s a limitation of H3C´s VPLS implementation?
