Gigabit ethernet/SFP combo SIC not recognized in chassis

Hello,

I have an MSR3024 router into which I've just installed a JG738A ethernet/SFP combo SIC.

This module isn't recognized by the chassis upon re-applying power.

I'm a relative newb to Comware. Are there add'l steps required to make this interface addressable/usable?

TIA!

Re: Gigabit ethernet/SFP combo SIC not recognized in chassis

Is your HPE MSR3024 running Comware 7.10 version E0104 (January 2014) or an older version?

Support for HPE FlexNetwork MSR 1-port GbE Combo SIC Module (JG738A) was added with the release of (and so after) that software version.

The very first step should always be: verify the running software version and try to keep the device software updated...this means that - actually - your MSR3024 should run the current Comware 7.10 version R0306P12 (April 2016).

Re: Gigabit ethernet/SFP combo SIC not recognized in chassis

Hi Parnassus,

Yes, the unit arrived out of the box at HP Comware Software, Version 7.1.059, Release 0304P15 dated 11/15, so I don't think this would be the issue.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Re: Gigabit ethernet/SFP combo SIC not recognized in chassis

The answer is <drum roll>... that this module can only be installed on slots 2 or 4 on the MSR3024 (JG406A) chassis.

Moved it from slot 1 to slot 2 and VOILA, add'l interface available!
