HP 5900 40G Switch (JC772A) can’t link to IXIA 40G module with HP 40G DAC cable (JG328A).

        HP 5900 40G Switch (JC772A) can’t link to IXIA “Xcellon-Multis QSFP 40/10GE Load Modules” or Spirent 40G module with HP 40G DAC cable (JG328A). HP SR4 40G transceiver (JG325B) is no such problem.

Any answers and solutions would be appreciated!

My guess is that the other products cannot identify the DAC cable and can't work with it.  When you plug the DAC cable in, is there any status indication that it is identified and working?

Other non-HP 40G DAC cable works although it is not listed in spec of HP 5900. IXIA and Spirent tester are a standard equipment in Switch test. But the HP 40G DAC cable can't make connection between HP 5900 Switch and IXIA tester. Are there any solution to fix it? Thanks!

Are you saying that you found a non-HP DAC cable that works with the 5900 and the IXIA?  Do you get the warning message on the 5900 about it not being recognized?

Unless you are testing the HP DAC cable, I'd use the non-HP one then.

Is your 5900 up to date on the Comware software?  That can make a difference too.

We have another team in the building that has an IXIA.  I can ask if they have had success with the HP DAC cables.

Yes. Since a non-HP DAC cable works with the 5900 and the IXIA, I think it should be compatibility issue. The 5900 really shows the warning message about it not being recognized. Fortunately, it works.

I can't find a new comware SW in its home page.

I'm told that we don't have a 40gb module in our Ixia so I don't know.  But, the engineers that I spoke to said it is not unusual for other vendors cables not to work with an Ixia or Spirent TestCenter either.

So, I'd stay with what you have that works.

Thanks for the answers. More results of HP 40G DAC cable are as follows. A Switch and N Switch are made by other vendors. It looks like DAC cable has more compatibility issue than Fiber transceiver.

1. N Switch to A Switch => Connection

2. 5900 to N Switch => No connection

3. 5900 to IXIA => No connection

4. 5900 to Spirent => No connection

5. 5900 to IXIA => Connection with HP SR4 transceiver
