HP A5100-24G SI Switch - MAC address learning issue
Hello all,
we have some issues with MAC address learning. The switch sometimes forgets some learned MAC addresses. The upstream trafic to the router is forwarded correctly, but the downstream trafic is broadcasted in appropriate VLAN. I have upgraded the software to the latest version, but with no results.
We solved it temporary with static entry to the mac-table, but after "mac-address static 00e0-7de5-024f interface GigabitEthernet 1/0/27 vlan 1010" I get this message "MAC table is almost full". See bellow.
[Kovoterm]
MAC table is almost full
00e0-7de5-024f 1010 Config static GigabitEthernet1/0/27 NOAGED
MAC TYPE LEARNED USER-DEFINED SYSTEM-DEFINED IN-USE AVAILABLE
Dynamic Unicast 1049 0 0 1049
Static Unicast 0 1 1 1 1024
Total Unicast 1050 8192
Have somebody any idea, how to solve this problem?
Thanks for your suggestions,
Michal

Re: HP A5100-24G SI Switch - MAC address learning issue
Hi downer
If a mac-table is full the switch floods packets of unknown mac-addresses into the VLAN. That's a normal behaviour. But it don't looks like your table is full. There should be ~7k free entries.
I think it's a bug. Please check with the HP support.

Re: HP A5100-24G SI Switch - MAC address learning issue
Hi Manuel,
thanks for the answer.
I tried to contact HP tech support, but this product is out of warranty for tech support since 2009. Do you have any suggestions how to solve it? Software downgrade maybe?

Re: HP A5100-24G SI Switch - MAC address learning issue
Sorry, I can't help. The A5100 SI is an old ex-H3C-labeled Switch which was cut out the HP portofolio during the merger.
Downgrading may helps, but I cant raise your hopes.
