HP Open Network switches (Cumulus based)
HP Open Network switches (Cumulus based)
Hi,
does anyone already have more informtatioan about those new Cumulues based switches (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/hp-news/press-release.html?wireId=1921691#.VOttdvnF9JY) ?Do part numbers already exist?
According to the text:
"To start, HP is introducing two open network switches that enable 10G/40G spine and 10G leaf data center deployments. Both switches will be available with Cumulus Linux OS and offer zero-touch OS installation using an open network install environment loader"
"Pricing and availability
The new HP open network switch portfolio will be available in late March. Pricing details will be available at that time."
And should I stop buying 5900/5920/5930/7900 switches in favor of those new switches? :-)

Re: HP Open Network switches (Cumulus based)
Hi Michael
I had the chance to play around on the beta hardware in december. Easy to manage and to configure, especially when you have a good linux background.
But I dont think they should be used in "standard" DC's, more in purpose built DC.
I dont have more information at the moment. I'm curious as well.

I agree with Manuel; these are currently aimed at huge and growing DCs (hundreds to thousands of switches each year), with devops based system management, right at the high end of the classic IT Maturity Model scales.
They will presumably filter down over time.
