HPE 5130 Hi & ACL

I find in documentation for ACL on 5130 this information:

An ACL is implemented in hardware or software, depending on the module that uses it.
• If the module is implemented in hardware, the ACL is applied to hardware to process traffic.
Example modules are packet filter and QoS.
• If the module is implemented in software, the ACL is applied to software to process traffic.
Example modules are routing and login management.

What type of traffic is implement in hardware?

If the routing module is impelement in software it means that Layer 3 and 4 traffic ACL's (eg. based on IP address or TCP/UDP port) are implement in software?

Re: HPE 5130 Hi & ACL

I think they mean (but its badly written) that when you use an ACL for your routing protocol such as BGP then this is being handled in the CPU (software).

For example when your device imports a BGP table from another device.

However the packetprocessing (packet arriving to your 5130 to be routed towards nexthop) will be handled in hardware.
