IRF Connection Requirements

I'm working on a project where we want to have 4 5900 switche in an IRF configuration, with 2 of the switches in one building and the other 2 in the other building.  The connectivity between the buildings is a metro ethernet connection, not dark fiber.

Looking at the IRF configuration guide, I'm not clear on the support for this.  It looks like it is saying it must be dark fiber between the members of an IRF.  

The main goal is to be able to have the same layer 2 environment at the 2 locations, so we can vMotion servers between the sites and not have to re-IP the servers or reconfigure client software.  If we can't use IRF to accomplish this, what would be the best way to do that.
