NTP on 4500 Switch

I need assistance with the following setup please:

We have a 3Com 4500 26 port switch at work that needs to act as a "NTP server" to 5 different types of equipment(systems) all of which are on their own subnet. Connected to the switch we have a Hopf GPS clock which needs to act as the clock source. Do we need to enable the NTP server on the switch or can we simply put each of the 5 systems into their own VLAN and make the GPS clock a trunk port?

Re: NTP on 4500 Switch

Hi,

why don't you just create a "clock" vlan and then route it through your 4500 or your router, then configure your clients to get ntp time from your gps clock ? ntp is routable, so there is no reason why you would get all the vlans to your clock.

Hope this helps.

I never configured a 3com switch as an ntp server, only client.
