Packet capture on 5510 24G SFP 4SFP+ HI JH149A
Hello all,
I am looking for a way to perform packet capture on a 5510 24G SFP 4SFP+ HI JH149A.
In the manual (link can be found on the bottom of the post) on page 231 I found a configuration example using QOS policy, traffic behaviour and mirror-to-cpu.
Unfortunately the command to actually write away/display the packets doesn't seem to exist on my device.
<DeviceA> packet-capture interface gigabitethernet1/0/1
Is this a bug in the firmware? Or am I using the wrong manual?
Is there an alternative. Please note that this is a remote device to which I do not have physical access.
Thank you.
Kind Regards,
Sven Clabots

Re: Packet capture on 5510 24G SFP 4SFP+ HI JH149A
Sven,
You need to load the packet_capture feature package with the boot-loader command before those commands will work. It should be a part of the archive you copied to the switch. If not, download it again from My Networking and you should be all set.
Regards,
David

Re: Packet capture on 5510 24G SFP 4SFP+ HI JH149A
Hi Sven,
I've been looking at the packages from HP, and there is no packet-capture feature image for the R1111P01 software. So I think you need to upgrade.
If you download the R1120P10 for the HP-5510 file from "My software" there is a file called "5510hi-cmw710-packet-capture-r1120p10.bin". You can - after you upgrade to R1120P10, install this image. Upload it and do
>install activate feature flash:/5510hi-cmw710-packet-capture-r1120p10.bin
then your packet capture feature should work.
NB: There is a newer software R1121, but its packaged in a strange way (faulty it seems) HPE should look at this, and there is no packet-capture images included in that release download. I'd go with R1120P10.
